I'm in a bit of a predicament. I have told a recruiter that I'll take a public school contract they offered me. It's a typical middle school EPIK/GEPIK deal. They are pushing me for all my documents as soon as I can get them to them.
Among the documents are two medical checks (self and doctor... lame and a bit redundant). I also need to get a letter from my first employer stating that I worked there for a year (this will get me a slightly higher pay) regretfully my old manager doesn't want to help me out here... she thinks its unnecessary or something like that...
Anyway, I digress. I was wondering how long I can keep this public school on the hook while I shop around for better gigs? It is a bit sneaky but at the moment I've only got one transcript and one diploma so I'm reluctant to send them off with so many other jobs available right now.
They also cannot promise me that even after I commute a half hour by subway that I won't have to take a bus to the school if it's in a rural part of the district.
I will have additional transcripts and diplomas couriered to me this week so that I can bargain even if I do send my stuff off to the public school job... what happens if they already process my visa number though? Is it then set in stone or can I decline their offer at any time before I make the actual visa run?
I also heard that it was legal to teach so long as you have a visa issuance number... the actual visa run can wait a little while?
Thanks for any advice. |

Confucius says, a good public school job is better than a bad UNI.
Did you sign the public school contract? Could get kinda sticky. Also, perhaps not the nicest way to go about it.
I used a public school offer as my 'safety school' this year, but I didn't tell them I would definitely take the job. When I got the other job, I emailed my regrets to the public school and thanked them for their consideration.
Public's take a lot of this kind of stuff, I'm afraid, and considering they are decent folks most of the time, that's too bad.
My vote is, you tell them your true status. |

I've been told conflicting information about this. Some say it's possible to have multiple Visa Issuance numbers out at once, but others say it's not possible. I wish I knew for sure because I have a slightly similar predicament. |
