Does anyone know what kind of grain this is? The picture looks like wheat.
I grind this grain and mix it with white flour to make bread. I tried to look in the dictionary for what this was called, and for the life of me I can not find it.
Can some one tell me what kind of grain this is? Thanks.

99% sure it's pearl or compressed barley. I use it to add to my homemade soups. My wife calls it boori sal. |

Thank you guys very much.
Barley it is then.
I will try it in soup. I just know it is cheaper then oatmeal. It grinds up in the blender very well, and it makes a great addition to white flour when used for bread. |

Thank you all very much.
I am glad u told me it is barley. I just knew it was some kind of wheat. I buy it and grind them in the blender. Mixed with regular bread flour, it makes wonderful bread About 4 - 1. Four parts bread flour and one part grain. Brown rice can also be ground up and used in bread.
There are many grains here, just not what I am used to.
I know oatmeal can be gotten in many places, but it is just hard to find where I am. So, I make due.
Baking bread is easy, and even if you do not have an oven, "english muffins" can be made on top of the stove. I make them often. Just take any bread recipie, portion it off till you have pieces the size of tennis balls. Roll the pieces into a circle, and flattn out till about 1/2 inch thick. Let them rest for about 1/2 hr.
Usina a non stick pan, heat it over a medium fire put one or 2 in the pan not touching. Let coolfor a while. I am not sure, I never time it. Perhaps 3 minutes....5...........I am not sure. test one and find out. turn it over, and before it burns (when again I camnot sure, not long). Let them cook off on a rack, or an old pillow case, or t shirt, what ever.
fantastic. |
