I'm looking for a second hand, neck through, Gibson SG. I know this is pretty specific and a bit of a long shot but it doesn't hurt to try... |

Hey. I saw your "Gibson longshot" post. I have a Gibson SG I am selling for $550. I have that whole "Once I own a guitar I am attached to it forever because it is somehow a part of me" thing going on. But I am selling this one as a part of a fairly recent and lucid thought that I don't need to own more guitars than I play. ANYWAY (sorry). I have a 1995 All-American I Gibson SG I am trying to sell before I decide to just do the easy and needless thing and continue to let it sit in my closet.
To make a long story short, I initially bought it because it was a pretty unique SG, and I love SG's (I still own a couple other ones) and I liked that it sounded different than your standard SG. The All-American I is a single humbucker SG with coil taps and a wine burst finish. Instead of two humbuckers for sound variations, they made one humbucker with the tap so you could still have the sound dynamics, but with a single coil option instead of a second neck pick-up. I thought it was a good idea, and when I played like it, it sounded like one too. So I bought it. It was super-good-different.
Some history. Gibson experimented in the mid 90's with revamping the SG line. The first real change they made was introducing the All-American I in '95, and then the All American II in '96. They sold well so the next year they made a big run of the SGX line...which were a garbage version of the previous two super well made models. The SGX used cheaper wood, lower grade wiring for the humbuckers and didn't sound as good as the AAI and AAII and a year or two later they discontinued the line. Anyway, I have one of the earlier All-American I's and am selling it for $550. Let me know if you are interested! I looooove SG's, I hope this wasn't too long, just wanted to let you know exactly what it was. Thanks.

A used all-american sells for about the same price as a new sgx, so I'd say you're probably right about the sgx's being made with cheaper woods. |
