I'm a relatively new import to Seoul and I've been wondering where all of the South Africans are? I mean I think I'll be able to last the year without braais, brandewyn and boerewors but I could do with a good jol once or twice. Also someone to talk to about Super 14 would be great |

NR,
Good question. You won't find many in Korea, due to lack of S. African interest, possibly due to such a mundane country, sorry to say. Many prefer Taiwan, and that's where you'll find SA's by the thousands..
Many stay here for years, have acclimated quite well. Try a trip to Taipei, or join the Taiwan forum.
Why they don't prefer Korea has perhaps a lot to do with your educational level too. |

| I'll be working with a South African woman starting next month. She's home on vacation right now. I met her once and she seemed like a cool lady. |

None of his students parents have complained that he hasn't been there the last month and a half? Do you collect his pay checks for him? Nice-uh.. |

I wish!
Here's the story -
Last August, he was hired (school district) and thought he would be teaching students in a classroom. They put him in the then new, 'Cyber Learning Center' (online teaching) and he hated it. He made up a story about his father having cancer - then changed it to his girlfriend (more difficult to verify) - and waited until the director (who knows K immigration law) was not at work. He spoke to his manager and the local school inspector (who don't know K immigration law) - they gave him 'temporary' leave to go back to SA. He 'split' within the hour and flew out of Incheon without a re-entry permit.
It was brilliant! He was paid for two weeks more than he worked; and didn't have to pay back his airfare! Back in Joberg, he pleads ignorance and sends synchophantic emails to the school district administrators, as well as small gifts to the director - who still don't reasize he did a 'midnight run'. |

| lol ok South Africans in Gwangju...great...but I cannot possibly be the only South African in Seoul. I don't think thats statistically feasible. No worries, if there is anyone out there hope you get to watch the rugby today, for that little taste of home. Check out Kuduclub.com if you want to stream the matches. |
