I think it's funny when Koreans think we don't understand a bit of Korean. Well, I do and today I was minding my own business, as usual, standing at the intersection waiting to cross the street. A group of teenage guys on bikes pull up and start saying I have a big nose (in Korean). I told them in Korean that they were stupid and I said something else I shouldn't have really said along the lines of *** you. An older ajumma behind them looked at me and grinned like she thought it was funny. She probably thought they were losers, too. They said sorry and that I was beautiful in English. I told them in Korean they had ugly faces. I was not in a particularly grand mood today. Then, to top it all off in Gangnam, I went to a restaurant and the girl in there looked at me like I have leprosy just because I was dining alone. So freaking what!!! Then, I did some shopping in Gangnam station and I bought a dress and a handmade blouse. The salesgirl told me the dress was 85,000 and then she showed me 160,000 on the calculator. I thought that was the price for both items. I had exactly 160,000 in my wallet. I gave it to her. She said oh no, the blouse is 160,000 because it was handmade and the dress was 85,000 for a total of 245,000. I told her in Korean that's expensive and that 160,000 was all I had. So, she took it and I got my stuff!!! Happy ending, huh? I guess she thought I was a stupid foreigner. I don't care if it's a handmade blouse. It can't be worth 160,000 in Gangnam station. It's not a dept store name-brand.

Feeling lonely? Searching for attention?

At least 3 negative threads from you as of late. Your post quality is going way down.

Perhaps a personal blog is just the ticket.

Ahhh, Princess is having a rough time (saw the bf posts from last week), so cut her some slack.

Props to you Princess for sticking up for yourself, and for knowing enough Korean to do that. My hats off to you!

You'd have to be unbelievably pathetic to pretend to be a girl who got screwed around by her K-boyfriend, and who is going to the ladies luncheon. Think people are far to paranoid about socks on Dave's. I've been known to support a good conspiracy theory, but nothing on the scope of the hundreds of socks that are purported to be on here.

that's awesome (i mean, that you told them off)

a couple months ago, two youngish teenage boys said hello and started laughing....i smiled and kept walking, as usual. then a large triangular jagged rock flew by my head and struck a car in front of me. this was no pebble....i could have been seriously injured.
i walked over to the losers and screamed at them for 5 minutes, half korean, half english.....they went from denying throwing it to apologizing on the verge of tears. i think the words in korea "police," "parents" and the other curse words i threw in scared them to death. they'll never do that again, i'm sure of it.

i tell this story because you should never underestimate the stupidity of teenagers....just be on your guard. i know i am now.

Most of the time, comments from the kids don't bother me. I walk around in my own world, and don't usually hear them anyway. I'll correct their banmal if only to see the look of shock on their faces when they realize I understood what they said, but that's usally as far as it goes.

But last month, I was still not feeling great after my hospital stay, so when a group of high schoolers decided it was funny to ridicule my (shaved) bald head and laugh uproariously, I didn't let it go.

"Why is my head funny, is bald funny, there's another bald man (note: Korean)... go ahead... point and laugh. I said point and laugh." (by this time the Korean man noticed what I was yelling at them about and came over and actually helped me yell at them Laughing ). Me yelling at them had them cowed and embarrassed, but the ajosshi had them crying and shouting apologies.

He was awesome. We sat down in KFC and I bought the guy a coffee. He apologized for their behavious and I waved it off. The conversation was short (he had places to go), but he was a pretty nice guy.

If I am in a bad mood and some craphead ever throws something at me, I will chase them down and beat the crap out of them. If I am in a good mood, I will throw it back at them... Laughing I have never been in a physical fight in my whole adult life, but one of these days, some joker is going to ask for it. Those teens sound like trash! Good going!

So, if that's true...can you tell us how to translate that into Korean? Phonetics is fine.
