Are they any good?
They seem to be always the cheapest of the brands in Korea and usually have some good features for the price
Makes me wonder what's the catch?

Does anyone know about them or have experience with them?

(I know I can read the reviews on cnet but they dont review averatecs bought in Korea)

Not sure about recent models, but last year I looked at them. They were built on the cheap. One of my students had one, and it had one of those hard drive back-up Windows OS things on drive D. When she had a problem, and reloaded Windows from it, it didn't work.

I think you probably get what you pay for.

I've had mine for a year and a half and have been very happy with it. I have had no problems with it.

Averatec is a high-quality brand. It's certainly a whole hell of a lot better than Dells or HPs which cost twice as much or more. And now that Trigem is a big investor in them, there are scores of authorized service centers for Averatec computers across South Korea.

Well I'm buying a second hand one in the next couple of weeks. I'm looking forward to it as well.

We use about 5 of them at work. The 6100 model to be precise. Not bad. Their performance seems quite good, but, they run really, really hot. Seriously hot. The little area next to the in-built mouse-pad becames uncomfortable to touch. Anyone planning to use these for downloading overnight or any extended use would need a cooler pad I'd say. Also, I don't think much of the screens. They look very murky compared to my Sony Vaio screen.

Edit: They don't run so hot. That was only the one I was using. It could have some dust clogging the vents or something. I still think the screens are dull though.

That model does have dull screens. It's kind of an older model, though. Very popular, however, due to it's price.
