Hey does anyone on here know about Dongrae in Busan? I want to get a school that's on the subway line as I will already be commuting about a half an hour by subway to get to Dongrae... I don't want to get to Dongrae and then have to catch a bus to some school out in the boondocks.
I know this is the case in the Haeundae school district for many teachers. Because they are at the edge of the Busan metropolitan area so their district includes many rural areas.
Is Dongrae this way too?
Why can't EPIK tell you where you will be? I ask what my school will be and it's all a big mystery. Has anyone else had this experience, if this were a hagwon that would be a HUGE red flag wouldn't it? |

There is a subway stop called Dongnae as you know but Dongnae gu is fairly big I thnk it includes sajik dong, myungnyundong, allak-dong etc, for allak-dong especially you will need to take a bus.
Check out the map pages on the net or pusanweb, or find a link to the dongnae website, that will have general information about how big dongnae is etc. |

That's the main reason why I turned EPIK down. Now I'm so glad I did. It really shows a lack of commitment in attracting experienced teachers and a preference for just placing any foriegner in any school. |

I'll bet it's in large part because they don't know themselves.
I think it's really tough for the public schools to book teachers. A lot of people cut bait when they find a better job, leaving the public schools hanging at the last minute. They want to be as flexible as ppossible until they know who they can place where.
My advice: Walk a mile in their shoes before you criticize.

'I'd like to see the school I would be working at'.
Is that really such an unreasonable demand? |

Nope, not unreasonable at all, but if they truly don't know (which is often the case) then you have to either wait for them to figure it out or find something else.
My point is, there not necessarily trying to hide it from you. They honestly don't know.

If I'm already in Korea and have teaching experience, why couldn't EPIK let me visit a prospective school beforehand? Wouldn't the school like to know about and have some say in whom they're getting? It's just simply an absurd hiring system, targeted at getting any westerner for any school and thinking they're thereby going to bring up the standard of English education here, all the while having no idea how far they're falling short of their potential. |

Yeah, it's pretty meaningless and absurd. The way they make it sound to me, is that I am being offered the job... I need to hurry and send my only copy of transcripts and diploma to them along with the 30 or so pages of application material.
So what the hell is the whole point of the application if based on my resume I have the job if I want it? Are they lying to me about how sure the offer is? I am expected to send them my precious transcript and diploma and they cannot even tell me what school I will be in?
Plus... why is the recruiter for a Busan school in Seoul.
