what should a teacher with no teaching experience expect when teaching TOEFL to middle schoolers?

how are the kids? and TOEFL?

Depends on how long the middle-schoolers have been learning TOEFL. TOEFL is just a test, and those studying TOEFL have been studying how to take the test. It doesn't necessarily mean that their English is better or worse than their peers, just that they want to (or their parents want them to) take the TOEFL test to go to a special high school or foreign university.
