That was a cute article.
Well, no it wasn't. It wasn't cute at all. It was serious, but didn't have much depth. So maybe it was cute in that way. Shallow.

Skeptics here say Japan's pursuit of cute is a sign of an infantile mentality |
It does seem infantile and childish to me, but I'm not sure that that is the extent of the answer. Maybe it's just easier to be cute than sophisticated, classy, witty or thought-provoking. I'm thinking about TV commercials. |

A perfectionist at work. |

Thirty-eight-year-old garbage collector Hideki Kojima is such a believer in cute he patronizes a "maid cafe," |
Now if that doesn't just say it all. I would have been a lot more interesting to read an article about this guy.
That sentence is typical of the article though -- could the writer believe he goes there because he just loves 'cute' so damn much? The whole thing is really lacking in analysis and plays to stereotypes of the Japanese. |
