Hi

I moved into a new apartment in October last year, & have had nothing but trouble with extremely noisy upstairs neighbours, who often let their unsupervised 4 year old boy, run around until midnight, knocking over chairs & yelling out, etc. Sometimes the parents are dropping things on the unsoundproofed floor as late as 3:30am. Late last night, they were hammering something into the floor, directly above me.

Anyway, tonight I tried ringing the police as a last resort, (I have already tried the Apartment Building Management several times, who are perhaps afraid to speak to the tenant, because he works in the army?) & I got redirected or cut off 4 times. Has anyone got a contact number for English speaking police, who won't just say Huh? & hang up on me? I am in Gyeongi Do province.

Just have parties at your apartment, get drunk as shit until 7:30 am on the weekends and buy a set of the loudest speakers you can find. The police won't do shit about it.

Have you tried talking with your neighbors first?

Police should be the very last resort.

I guess along the same lines as Joe suggested, you might see if you can find a Korean to come over and go up and talk to them. If that doesn't work I would have a Korean talk to the building manager.

The tenant is an arrogant army guy, & has threatened to throw a fire extinguisher at me, whilst his mother was trying to strangle me, last time I tried speaking with them. Trust me. They're not the sort to listen to reason. Additionally, I already tried loud music to drown out their noise, but finished up at 10 pm & switched to headphones, so I'm not bothering other tenants. The ***** had the gall to complain to my schools' Principal, that my noise was bugging him!

I don't suppose it's possible for you school to find you another apartment? Since the principal knows at least SOME of the problems that you're having, maybe you can give him more details and he'll find you another place? (Wishful thinking here!)

Guess your best bet is to buy some earplugs!

The school has signed a 12 month lease last October, so I can't move. But my contract finishes in May. My school has offered to move me into the school dormitory, which has no bed, just an ondel heated floor. I've slept in this type of bedding for a few nights in both Korea & Japan (tatami) but I don't know if I could stand 3 months of it?

I have read in another post about 'scraping, bumping noises upstairs', & I know what it is. You know the lowset tables with charcoal grills you see in Korean Restaurants? Well, my upstairs neighbours drag the tables into place for a full family get together meal at 10:30 pm on a Sunday night. Then at 11:30 pm, they start dragging them around again to put them away.

Like I said, man.. revenge.. running around changing apartments, sleeping in some crappy dorm.. that's called being a pushover. I'm not saying go drastic. Go even. Find out what his schedule is, and at what point he's most likely to be entering a deep level of sleep. Then capitalize on that by beating on his door like a madman every single day at that time. Then, when he opens the door, tell him you thought it was your girlfriend's apartment.

Don't let a bully threaten you with a fire extinguisher. This is not a playground and you are not a cho-ding. You know what to do.

Tape cardboard around your speakers. Then get a bunch of crap to make a tower so your speakers are touching your ceiling. Leave your music on all night. There will little sound in your apt. All of it will be going upstairs. Make sure you have this set up right below their bedroom.
