My wife is still a national of another East Asian country. She heard through the grapevine that she needs to report any plan to leave the country on vacation to the local police or immigration unit where we reside or she cannot re-enter Korea. She holds a F-3 visa.
Is this info. correct?
I had Chin-Ho check this out but he came up empty. |

Wrong!
Make sure you both have multiple re-entry permits and you can come and go as you please. This costs, I think, 60K and takes 10 mins (not counting the horribly long waiting time - but you can actually make appointments on the internet now!!).
Check your PM, Steve.

| What she said. My wife is on an F3 and has left a whole bunch of times. Just get the multiple re-entry from immigration. |

Clarification: she has SINGLE entry visa affixed to her passport. So what I'm hearing is that the rumor is bunk insofar as the ARC is concerned but she'll need to change her visa entry status or get a new visa??
Any idea how long this takes? |

She will have to get a new re-entry permit BEFORE she leaves the country.
She can get a multi re-entry at the local immigration office. Cost is 50k won and it takes about 15 minutes AFTER she reaches the counter.
She only needs her passport, ARC, filled in application form and 50k won.
She can get a single re-entry permit at either the local immigration office or at the airport. The cost is 30k won. Time is 15-45 minutes depending on the lineup. Application procedure is the same.
The airport immigration office is located in a hallway found on the back wall of the departures hall behind and between check-in counters F and G. This is BEFORE she goes through the security check. The airport office is open from 6:30am - 10:00pm. |

Mahalo (thanks) for the detailed reply. Much appreciated, bruddah. Aloha.
She was perhaps misinformed by the Korean embassy in her home country, who indicated she only needed her visa stamped again without the assessing of an additional service fee. |
