Anybody know...

Is it possible to get an international drivers license in Korea with a Korean License.

I'm going to the UK and a Korean license isn't accepted and I have lost my NZ license Rolling Eyes .

A Korean licence is acceptable in UK. I have rented cars with it for some time.

But getting an IDP is easy too. There is a section at the driving licence office for "International Permits".

Thanks Wangja.

Good to know that you can rent with a K-License.... but last time I went there I couldn't be added to someone elses insurance with it. (I'm planning to bum a car rather than rent!!)

If you have an F-class visa you can get an IDP with no problems.

If you are on an E2 visa you must have been in Korea for MORE THAN 3 years to get an IDP.

I don't know about restrictions for those on A or D class visas.

It depends on his nationality.

When I got mine I simply showed my ARC, my home licence, gave them 2 photos and paid the fees (10,000 won). I walked out an hour later with my licence.

It is NOT possible to have an international license without a HOME country license. An international license is simply a multi-lingual translation booklet of your home country license and is only valid for 1 year or until your home license expires.

IF he wants to get a Korean license he will have to show his home country license or go through the complete Korean licensing procedure - including written and road test.
