|

I have this Paul Frank sweatshirt that my 8 year olds love. When I walk into class they are transfixed for a moment and then shout "MONKEY!"
Trying to figure out what to wear is such an overload. We all had that teacher in school who wore his clothes on some kind of weekly system. "It's Tuesday so Mr. Bart is swearing the wine-colored pants..." Or worse that professor that always wore the same suit. Now in a normal job you try to think "what did I wear yesterday" and not wear it. When you're teaching and you see one group of kids Monday/Thursday and another group Tuesday/Friday and another group Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday, trying to remember what you wore for each previous class and not wear that is really testing my visual memory.
Then add in trying to remember what you wore for dates with women, meetings with friends, your Saturday/Sunday Starbucks which is different from your Monday-Friday Starbucks...

I've sorted the clothing dilemma.
Ive got my work clothes, house clothes, going out clothes, weddings and special occasion clothes and dating clothes [clothes formerly known as courting grits] .
Obviously, when you are working full-time your work clothes make up the largest component of your wardrobe. Appearance is not an issue in the way I rotate my clothes, but the laundry system is. I have 2 pairs of work pants - identical (ditto jeans and cargos) and 3 of the same type of white shirt and 4 of the same type of black shirt that I wear to work. Boring, but deathly efficient.
I [as yet] don't work with kids, but I think that fun clothing that appeals to kids is a great way to engage their attention, and the monkey logo on those paul frank brands always makes me smile - if its the same one that I'm thinking of. |

| My students seem to like my lavender colored eye shadow when I wore that, and my star necklace. |

I wear a multi-colored shirt I had made in Itaewon. Hamilton Shirts thought I was nuts to have it made, but they admitted it turned out good. I used to wear it to Kindy classes to teach colors (hehhe) but my high school girls really like it. They like anything with color, since most Korean teachers are (have to be) pretty conservative. They seem to cut the foreigners a lot of slack in clothing, as long as it looks nice.
I used to produce TV commercials for a symphony, and the conductor had a shirt like that. I always thought it was cool. |

Their favorites were my cat and dog sweatshirts and t-shirts. They loved identifying them in English.

My boys (middle school) love it when I wear my hair down as I have long blonde hair. Unfourtantly some of them like to touch it so it tends to be up.
I also have a knee length blue satin skirt that they love.
Generally both my students and admin like it if I dress all girly. So anytime I wear pink I always get 'teacher beautiful.'
I actually went home and picked out a couple of outfits with my students in mind. Including a t shirt that says
I didn't ask to be a PRINCESS but if the crown fits... |

Maybe its too many years of British "public" schools, but I like to dress up in slacks, dress shirt and a tie when I teach.
That said, I have a big collection of funny, goofy ties.
The kids especially seem to like the ties with animals on them. |

hey jack - i havn't heard anyone say slacks for about 30 years!
when i was a medical student (i dropped out) i used to wear a tie that had skeletons on it when i was doing ward rounds. mixed responses from doctors and patients! when my tutorial group were rostered to the children's ward we all dyed our hair brilliant colours..... the kids loved it - but we were nearly thrown out of the med school! |

I'm amazed here at how much the students notice. In the States you have to have some radical change for students to notice, or at least say anything. I did my hair blonde one time, and I swear it took three days before anyone bothered to say anything.
Here, if I leave my hair curly instead of straightening it out, or tie it back real simply, all of the students, especially the boys, ooh and ahh and comment on it. Its flattering at times, but a bit disconcerting. Its only a damned ponytail!
And, yeah, the girly stuff. Man do they love that. I don't really have a lot of girly stuff- at almost 5' 10" it looks silly on me. I look best in sleek, modern, more androgenous stuff. But the slightest hint of girliness- a little velvet, a bow, etc., and I get the "teacher you are beautiful today." When I get that, I have to double check my look- I probably look a bit foolishly frilly, and need to tone it down. |

| Mine don't usually notice my clothes unless I wear skirt (since I do so rarely) but the little ones love this ladybug necklace I have. |
