This is my first year in Korea, and I am not all that keen on paying Income tax back home when they have done nothing for me. I am going to apply for non-residency, but is there any other ways around paying taxes back home that Canadians who have been here for a while have found? Any advice is much appreciated.[/b] |

Don't apply for non-residency. Don't pay your taxes while you are here. If they question you about it when you go home (highly unlikely), you can then apply for non-residency status retroactivly (for the time you were out of the country). As long as you didn't own a house, land, car payments, etc... while you were in Korea, you should be able to prove you were a non-resident at the time. It should be no problem.
Also, keep a copy of all the forms showing what taxes you pay on your income here. If you can show you paid taxes on your income earned here (albeit to the Korean gov't), you will be less likely made to pay at home. |
