this is probably a shot in the dark, but...
i just arrived in Busan and am having a hard time finding vegetarian options. it doesn't help that there are no other English teachers / native speakers at my school. my school's korean teachers are quite nice but unapologetically fans of meat in all its form.
are there any vegetarians here from Busan? could anyone point me toward any resources that might help? i live in Seomyeon (if that helps give you an idea of where i am).
thank you in advance. |

There are some vegetarian restaurants in Busan. Most are run by either 7th day adventists or Buddhists. Ask a korean to look in a phonebook. I've been to one, but have no idea where it is. Sorry i'm not more help.
Try a post in the Busan Food and Eats forum in pusanweb.com. Vegetarian restaurants do exist. you can even get TVP at some of them. |

Are any of the vegetarian restaurants smoke-free (not just a non-smoking section)? |

I've never been to Busan, but I found this at the Happy Cow site:

I'm also pretty sure there's at least one Indian place there where you can get a veg meal. Maybe you could do a search for Ganga? I think there's more at PusanWeb too. Don't worry, I'm sure you'll find some great food. |

How strict of a vegetarian are you? Are you the "please don't put flesh in my meal" kind or the "did this come anywhere close to meat or touch meat juice/stock/etc in anyway" kind? If you are the second, good luck in Korea.
Both Ganga and Hello Thai in Haeundae offer vegetarian (of the first variety) meals an are really good (if a bit pricey). I'm a reformed veggie (have started eating chicken occassionally) so i'm not too picky. |

i am not very strict about meat being in the vicinity of my food. meat does not gross me out; i am just choosing not to eat it.
thank you for the names of those restaurants. i'm a big fan of thai and indian food so any cuisine in that vicinity is a wonderful option. |

I just got into Busan today. I'm vegan and my girlfriend, who got here ten days ago, is vegetarian. I plan on cooking a lot and learning all the vegan/veggie-necessary words for going to restaurants, but if anyone else in Busan has any other recommendations or info as far as restaurants go, I would greatly appreciate it.
I've been through many of the threads on the subject, but most have to do with Seoul.
