Recently i have bought a belkin wireless G router and the firmware is all in korean. any thoughts on how to replace it with english? I reckon that all i have to do is go to the belkin website and try to find the english firmware and download it. but i am a bit hesitant to do that because i don't want to make any mistakes. Any advice?

Good luck.

You can only get away with that if the firmware currently on your router is out-of-date. At least, that's my experience with the Belkin wireless G routers I've installed for others. They won't let me change or update the firmware unless it needs it.

If you find a way, please let me know.

Belkin
Buffalo
Netgear all have English version of the firmware.

Not sure about the cheap Korean brand knock offs.

Yes. Check which routers have English firmware before you buy. There was a thread here a short time ago on that subject.

Now...what can be said? Try to update the firmware if it is the same revision or higher. Take it back and get another? Learn Korean quickly? (probably 80% of the words used are the same in English) Get a Korean friend to explain the menus to you?

Just learn Korean, or guess at it. I can navigate through my Zio router easily enough, because menus for routers are generally similar in what they do. If I were setting up ports for games, I'd be in difficult territory, though.

For what it's worth, my Zio router (all Korean )seems to work a lot better with Static IP's than my Belkin does. And Zio's are dirt cheap. My Belkin Pre-N is more powerful, though (but the Zio bests the Belkin Wireless G). In the end, you go with what is more reliable. On Dynamic IP setting, they both do fine.

Oh, and the firewall on my Zio plays well with MSN Chat. Belkin's Pre-N firewall doesn't. My Belkin Wireless G's were OK, though.

You could try using DD-WRT. It's an open source firmware that works on many routers. I'm not sure about yours, but it's worth looking into.[/url]
