Has anyone shipped their Korea life back home when they left? We are leaving Korea at the end of the year and accumulated quite a haul over the 7 years I've been here and the 3 years we've been married.

Some furniture we want to take with us, electronics equiptment, various other tidbits.

Any advise on cost, relocation companies, etc would be much appreciated

This post frequently comes up. There never seems to be a great answer to it. I suspect the costs of shipping are so high that no one ever does it.

There are a couple of places that advertise in the Korean Herald. If you get a quote from them could you please find this thread again and post the approximate costs for people looking for this info in the future? Thanks.

Here is the contact info:

Well, here is some general information I got from Tong-In

Here are some numbers for you to consider in regards
to sending some things homeward. Remember these are
just guesstimates based on today's marine rates. They
are subject to change almost daily due to the cost of
bunker fuel oil.

The first is USD $4086.00 in liftvans. A liftvan is a
wooden crate that we fill with your possessions which
is then in turn loaded into the steel container. This
will pack, ship and deliver about half of one 20 foot
steel steamship container. Equivalent to 15 cubic
meters or roughly 3500 pounds. To put that in
perspective I usually will equate one room to every
one thousand pounds. However, here in Korea that is
not quite the same. It is not uncommon to have a great
deal more in one room here in Korea as we tend to have
a higher density or concentration of weight due to
space limits.

The second is USD $5880.00 for one full 20 foot
container-loose packed. This will equal about 25
cubic meters loaded directly into the steel container.
Not in liftvans. We can save some monies by loading
"loose" and not have to use the liftvans, thereby
saving the expense of labor and materials. Also, we
can usually load with a higher density loose. This
will do the same as above, pack, ship and deliver.

Thirdly, USD $8692.00 for one full 40 foot container.
Loaded loose. This will equate to about 52 cubic
meters or almost 12000 pounds. The 40 footer will
usually accomodate quite a large home here or anywhere
else. All of the numbers mentioned are for delivery
to the Seattle area as I thought that is where I heard
you mention for a possibility. If not, it should be
the same to most any port on the west coast of the
states.

I hope this helps you decide one way or the other.
When you think you are ready I would be only to happy
to have our estimator make an appointment to stop by
to see just what's what. No obligation. Once you
know just what you are taking it will be easier for
him to know what the volume is in order to get a more
accurate figure. Also, once you know how much you
indeed have you will be able to decide just what you
'need' to take and then what you 'want' to take.

Not sure that it should be a sticky as it is only one quote from one source. If we could get some comparative numbers up there, might be worthwhile. Although, it these numbers are considered general and useful enough, having some shipping costs up there could provide a valuable service to those leaving.
