My boss is going to give me the usual 100,000 Won raise for re-signing. I also got him to pay me 1,000,000 Won for my plane ticket. I won't be going home. My ticket would've been to Montreal. I agreed to accept this in monthly increments of 100,000 for the first 10 months. This will be my third year with the same hagwon and I got the same thing last year.
Do you think 1,000,000 is an acceptable figure for Montreal? |

I'm getting quotes of a million won for Toronto right now, so I'd say yes.
750,000 would also be reasonable if you planned ahead a little better than I am right now. |

www.whypaymore.co.kr is showing the cheapest return fare to Montreal - YUL (feb and march departures) at 852k + tax so a million is in the ballpark if a little bit shy. |

If you worked for a public school you would have the two weeks off, a plane ticket home and NOT have to wait 10 months getting it 100k at a time over the next year.
Not that sweet. |

I get four weeks paid vacation. I got a week of vacation bonus each year for not taking any sick days. I'm going home for two weeks in August. I probably won't take all four weeks. I'll most likely have well over a week banked time that I get in cash when I finish. I took all of my vacation last year and went back home for only 10 days.
My gig is much sweeter than any old barfy public school drab. |

Paid in monthly increments? Sounds like a way to lose some monthly increments here and there.
4 weeks! That's great.
My public school job only let's me have 12 or so non work weeks....plus all that national holiday stuff.... of course I only three weeks out of country....grumble grumble.... |

You get 12 weeks? Wow. 3 weeks out of country. Yeah, that's pretty good. Don't know what I'd do with myself for 9 weeks in Korea though. I'd rather be working some of that, at least.
Still, public school is just not my thing. I don't, by any means, get a fortune for what I do, but it'll do for now.
For me, it's death before public school and death before kindergarten. To each their own, though. What's good for the goose...
Anyway, I had the same raise and the same plane ticket money in increments last year and I got it all. I wouldn't be signing on for a third year if I was getting screwed. I'm not your typical fresh out of college newbie. I've got a really sweet deal here as far as teaching gigs go in this country. |

How much do you make? You must get compensated well for those large class sizes. |

2.0 ++. ++ are the extra classes and end of semester weekend camps that add a couple of million per month foor four months a year. Amortized over the year, my gross is about 2.5/month.
Classes are 30-36 VERY well behaved middle school boys. |

Debts are amortized. I think you mean apportioned, though maybe that's not right either. Maybe just averaged? Anyway, I'm having a hard time imagining 30 well-behaved boys, and I have no idea how you could teach English to so many at once.
But, it's not relevant. Why argue over who has the better gig? If you're both happy, then it's all good. It's nice to hear from people who like their jobs for a change. |

Is that all? No wonder you get so much vacation. |

I think you're right, but not sure myself either... |
