I met a New Zealand woman at emart today, really nice woman, over 50, but she looked really depressed. She told me that the people next door keep a dog inside the apartment and it keeps her awake all night. I am no mother Theresa, but this lady seemed so down and out. I asked her if maybe there was a law about keeping a dog inside, I want to help her out she reminded me of my aunt back home, any ideas?

Tell her that she needs to speak to her boss about it. It's the bosses responsibility to provide a liveable apartment for her. If the problem isn't fixed, then tell her to stay in a motel for a night, get a receipt, and give it to the boss. If that doesn't work, sleep at the school. If that doesn't work, quit and find a new job.

While I can definitely sympathize, I'm not so sure that a neighbor's barking dog is something that her boss should necessarily be obligated to do something about.

That would be What's your IQ?

Going to the police, great advice. I'm sure they would spring into action, seeing as how they treat serious crimes like spousal abuse sooo seriously. Insulate her bedroom? Are you high?

What's wrong with just talking to the neighbors?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Gesh!
Even if one can't speak the language....using hand language will work....point to the dog, make some barking sounds, cover your ears, etc....they will get the picture. If not...call the cops!

Going to the police is exactly what she should do. There is a law for people who keeps dogs in their apartments.

She needs to go into the police office and file an official report. Then, everytime after that she calls the police to complain about the dog barking late at night, the owners of the dog will be fined 30,000won. If it's happening evey night or almost every night, it adds up to quite a bit of money for the owners and usually forces them to so something about their noisy dog. That's why this law is in place and because it happens quite often in Korea.

I would say that going to the police would accomplish zip. Like another poster said, they won't even get involved in spousal abuse issues. Also, ear plugs were a good suggestion. Talking to the neighbors may help, but also, I think her boss could talk to the landlord of the building about the barking dogsters.

If it's an apartment complex, she should have her boss contact the management office. Many, if not most, complexes have a no-pet policy.

In hindsight, I would insist on my co-teacher or the head teacher from the school, speaking to both the apartment management, & the tenant, in Korean.

hellofaniceguy is right.
Everybody has had a noisy neighbor at some point in their life. What did you do then? Hopefully you told the neighbor to shut the ##### up i'm trying to sleep. point, shout, yelp, kick, scream, whatever.... If, by some chance, this is a first, Welcome to the world! There are 6 billion of us. deal, kick, scream, yelp.... kill the dog.
before going to your boss I suggest going to mom and telling her how unfair the world is.
It may not help, but it will sure feel good.

mmm k well 1st she should be brave ... get A corean speaker if she is afraid / help speak and confront the neighbor

try to find a person who controls them - land lord their Mothers / Fathers boss and complain to them

also at work you can get the co worker to writ e a nice polite note and give it to them with a dog muzzle gift wrapped

failing that ask her boss to help

failing that mmmm 5 days later tell the boss she is going to the police...

tell police / file dog dirge complaint

failing that she should find out when they both work leave break in steal the dog kill it and eat it ... if caught she can say that over time she began to dream of victory and that she has come to love all foods in Corea .... and that she thought it would save them money....

k glad to help here PM me if you need more help
