Hi all, I am looking at perspective jobs and situations for myself and I figure I am worth about 2.2-2.5 mil won as a starting salary (I have over a year of experience teaching in Taiwan). At my school in Taiwan we were offered overtime quite a bit (at the regular hourly rate tax free though), and this kept me from having or wanting to seek out privates that so many other people have. My question for you guys is, how often are you offered paid overtime hours at your job? And if you are offered a lot of extra work do you do it because you want to or because you feel obligated to? I would personally like to work as much in house as I could and avoid having to do a bunch of privates if I could (not that i'm against them either).

Have you checked out CDI? I don't work there but the impression I get is that you can get as many hours as you want. You get paid by the hour there for all hours worked. If you want to work 6 days a week, it might be entirely possible.

At my hagwon, there's no overtime, ever. Just not scheduled. The best bet is to ask the foreign teacher that you'll be taking over for.

I think overtime is generally required in public schools. At my place (a GEPIK program), I teach 6 hours/week of a "spcial class", at $120 week.

I sometimes think of it as the real teaching in my job--I know my students, know their names, and have free reign to alternate between formal academic study and more creative activities.

I average about 1.5 a month in overtime and 3.0 a month during intensives. My wife and I have OT coming out our ears and the 3rd teacher refuses all OT. Choices we make. Very Happy

I"m at a public school (not Epik, just directly with school) and have never been offered overtime, which is Ok with me. If they offered extra classesto me during regular school hours, I would probably take it though.

I think if you want to pass yourself off as worth over two million, then you should probably learn the meaning of simple English words like "perspective".

I make about 2.3 million in OT during peak season when there's no winter or summer vacation. 3 hrs/wk at the hagwon and 10 hrs/wk off site arranged by my boss. The last 2 months have been very relaxing. No OT at all. Start back up in March. Ahhhhh! Oh well. Good money.

I should have simply wrote "different jobs". While my writing isn't perfect, It wasn't terrible just an awkward use of the word. Why do people like you feel the need to respond to a post with little more than an insult and offer no response to the question I posed?

I think you should also learn the proper use of the present perfect
tense. It is "have written" and not "have wrote".

Haha
