What else is love but understanding and rejoicing in the fact that another person lives, acts, and experiences otherwise than we do?

Geez Blynch, something must have happened to you over the past few weeks. Gotta say this style beats the wording of your previous posts/replies. Long may it last!
What's Love... who would know! It's hard to sum it up. Got married at 21, divorsed 19 years later, married again...what is love?
The bigger question is, how does one keep love going once the infatuation has worn off? |

Oscillating between the sublime and the ridiculous, I think it is either the best and worst life has to offer, or a chemical addiction to another saliva and pheromones.
Certainly it has offered me the best and the worst times in my life, and having an addictive personality, I often fall in love.
With the wrong people at times.
But that is for a much needed "Why do boys fall in love with bad girls?" thread.

Yeah, real love has that selfless aspect (like most mothers used to have for their babies...)
Here's an example of Love gone bad (though she's straightened out a lot and even credits Mel Gibson with helping her get off drugs ...)

You mean romantic love, I assume? There are so many different kinds of love...
I would say romantic love is a feeling and behavior that develop over time through mutual respect, admiration, and attraction. The feeling and the behavior both have to be there or it isn't love, IMO. |

Love, Lieben, L'amour, Lubov.... Well, there are all kinds of love as Ella stated. But they come from the same source. It is kind of like talking about a sport, you need to be fit to be a good athelete. You have to have a certain emotional, psychological wiring to give love.
Leo Buscaglia says that it is something taught. It could be somewhat cultural and taught. There are variations. Leo is an Italian-American.
There is a lot of expression of love in a very verbal sense in Italy. I think it is something you are often born with.
For me, love when you manifest towards someone else, you think deeply of someone else and not only of yourself, you think of ways to please that person and let them know in your own way how special they are whether it is your brother, mother, father, or your mate. You are conscience of their needs. You are patient with them, tolerant, understanding, not trying to be proud or boasting over them. When I love my friends, I strive to defend them, remember their birthdays, check on them to see if they are well, and work hard at listening to what they say more than listening to my mind and what I want to say.
Loving is not so easy. I mean real love. It is an art that needs practice, sincerite, and patience. It is like a meditation and a physical exercise combined with your emotions.
Maybe what I said sounds corny, but I can say Amo, J'aime, I love....
Quand on s'aime, on vit... |

| Love is like sticking your *beep* in a blender. Then turning the setting on to fine chopped. Then keeping the power switch off while the woman you love comes home from work, it's her time of the month, and asks you if you think she is fat while fondling the switch. |
