I just arrived in Ansan yesterday. This is my first time in Korea so if there's anyone close by (or close-ish) that would like to meet up some time then please feel free to pm me and we can sort something out.

What part of Ansan are you living in? I am in Gojan dong, right next to Homever.

I know this is really lame but I'm not actually sure what the name of my town is. Here's the last past of my school's addrss:
Chojidong Danwongu Ansanshi Kyunggido.

I know I'm very close to a train station - which is possibly Gojan, I saw it walking around last night but didn't think to write the name down.

is that a store or something? I'm about two blocks from a small river/stream that runs under the train line.

There is a Yahoo group for foreigners in Ansan, I think it's called "Waeguks in Ansan", check it out.

thanks very much everyone, I'll keep all this in mind. Perhaps after my visa run and first week at school is over with I'll pop by and have a beer with you (even if it is K'beer, which I just tried tonight and don't mind at all!).

Oh, and I'm just a little bit more clued up as to where I am now. I live very close to Choji Do Primary School, not far from Homever.

Thanks for all your replies, nice to know there's a little community of you close by.

I'm about two blocks from the 2001 Outlet store. I could definitely go for a beer.

I was just reading this article about beer, and noticed that Ansan supposedly has two microbreweries. I've never seen either one. Has anybody heard of Jung-ang Micro Brewery or German Brauhaus ?

To the OP, you are lucky because you are close to one of Korea's hidden gems, the maze of streets opposite Ansan station that contain a number of SE Asian and Indian eateries and supermarkets. Plenty of people to meet and talk to there as well, mostly factory workers in the area from those countries.

I heard about the Ansan "Chinatown" from a Chinese MSN friend who used to live in Korea and started going there sometime a year ago. I couldn't believe my luck to live in Ansan with all that good food and foreign beer. I told a lot of people about it but everytime my coworker and I went we were the only non-Russian whities there. I moved away and started coming back on Friday night recently and two weeks ago must've seen like 15~20 English teachers strolling about. That's great and there're lots of new restaurants, too, but I'm just wondering what happened? When did everyone start catching on?

Fellow Ansanian (Ansaner? Ansanite?) here. Although I am more of a homebody nowadays, my arm has been known to be twisted ever-so-slightly to have a few beers. Barely a twist, really. More of a nudge...

And come spring/early summer, it'll be BBQ time, a very good time to know Hanson.
