Hi,
I'm new to laptops so I need advice.
I'm going to be setting up a portable multimedia system for my classes. I'm going to be going from class to class using a laptop so need any advice on the best one with 17+ inch screens. Also, looking for the best way for portable sound. Would it be better to use an audio system with handle and connect through mic in? or use pc speakers? I find pc speakers quite jumbly with lots of wires.
Are the soundcards on laptops the same as pc's? That is, can an audio be easily connected.
I'd also like to have a connect to TV system so are VGA's (or wahtever that device is) in laptops able to do this?
Thanks for any advice. |

I suggest you look into the HP line of Pavillion laptops. Not sure if they have the 17" model for sale in Korea, but they do have everything you want. Mine comes with a very handy little remote and a built-in webcam too. (both are options).
I like mine a lot, but I wish I had waited for the Core2Duo version. I bought stateside, though, and had a limited time window. The dv6000t model has a 15.4" screen. You can also get a dv9000t with a 17" screen.
I'd say this is exactly what you are looking for. I'm guessing you'll get a much better price on the premium models if you buy outside of Korea. As well as English, although I think if you buy from HP in Youngsan, they can do English for you, too.
As for portable sound, you can buy a simple amped 1-speaker thing like we use in our media center at our uni. They are nothing special, and can be found at any guitar store. Get one that runs on battery power. Just plug the phono out into it, and it's all good.

I am also planning to use my laptop for classroom mulitmedia purposes. I would like to know how you set it up. I think the mini guitar amp for sound is a good idea...i tried bringing a small speaker set with me...but that isn't convenient or durable.
How about video? I was thinking to connect to the classroom tv or projector. |

Really interesting post. I'd like to hear about your classroom setups, too! |

If you have an external monitor/TV/projector to hook it up to, I wouldn't get anything bigger than 12" (actually, I wouldn't get anything better than 8") because lugging it around is a pain in the ass. |
