Hi,

My school has offered me 2 options with health insurance:

Option 1 - 2.24% of salary matched by employer
Option 2 - 100,000 won a month matched by employer.

Communication is quite difficult and I was just wondering if anyone else had been offered options for insurance, if so what does the 100,000 a month cover.

The same as 2.24% of your salary does, except he pockets the rest.

There is no "choice" for NHIC coverage. You pay the percentage and that's it. Call/visit the nearest NHIC office if you're still not sure about what the boss is doing. IMO, he's just looking for another way to pocket more of your money.

Option 1 is national health insurance.

Option 2 is money in your bosses pocket. If you get sick he pays the bill from that and keeps the rest. If you get a doctor bill that runs more than your contributions to his pocket he cuts you loose and you are FiretrUCKED. BAD CHOICE (not to mention illegal).

Thanks!

Guess I'll go with option 1 then. The director says that 100,000 covers everything whilst the 2.24% covers some things.

He still didn't go into detail though! Rolling Eyes

Option 1 it is

That's hilarious.

Option 1 - Pay 2.24% of your salary that I will probably not match until my back's against the wall and you figure out that you need a booklet from NHIC. Cross that bridge if I come to it.

or

Option 2 - Just give me 100,000 Won.

What the hell sense does Option 2 make? Was there some sort of super deluxe private (non-existant) insurance or is his English so bad that he couldn't get his point across and meant "and" 100,000 for pension?

Or was he just using the usual tactic of testing how naiive you might be and seeing how much he could get away with?

Oh wait. Yeah, he's trying to screw you over. Make sure you get your booklet within a month or two and double check after a while to see if he's forwarding your payments to NHIC. Phone number's in my other thread, "New Health Insurance Rate". He's trying to cheat you, so make sure you get that booklet. By the way, if he's (you're) not paying into pension then he's no doubt going to do his best to pocket your health contributions. Can't have one without the other. Or so I believe.
