Is it common procedure to send your passport to Korea before you go....Its confusing, some say you get a ref no then others say send your passport? |
DO NOT SEND YOUR PASSPORT.
You will need it to get your visa from the consulate AND you need it to get on the plane.
Send a COPY of the information page of your passport.
visa process....
Apply for a job.
send your resume, a scan of your degree and passport.
Get a contract. Negotiate your best deal.
sign the contract.
Return the contract, copy of your passport, degree (original or consulate certifited copy), SEALED official transcripts to the recruiter or school.
You will get a visa confirmation number somewhere between 4 and 10 days later (dependant on how busy the immigration office is in their district).
Take the visa confirmation number, your passport, 2 passport style photos (some consuls only use 1), and the visa fee to YOUR local Korean consulate. Fill in an application and wait for them to process it and put the stamp in your passport. (1-7 days).
After you get the visa in your passport you jump on a plane and get on over here.
Get picked up at the airport, taken to your school, introduced to your boss and start work. If you are lucky you will get some time to sleep before you get tossed into a classroom (not usual at a hakwon unless you arrive on a weekend).
I think this is still in the stickys in the FAQ forum. |
