This is the week inbetween the winter and spring vacations at my public school. I've been told to come to school but I've no idea what I'll be doing, if anything, this week. Anyone know what they're doing? Is anyone teaching this week?

There was a huge controversy about this last year. Twelve foreign teachers came to work with nothing to do. The local government officials were sent to "watch" them, but arguments between the bored teachers and local officials ensued. More officials were sent to the schools the next day to enforce the workdays (where no students were present).

In the end, seven teachers were tied to their desks for an entire day with bailing wire. One of them (a male) was hung from the cafeteria ceiling by his toes, covered in peanut butter, and beaten repeatedly with cold cucumbers.

The police were called, but they did nothing.

Be very afraid.

there are certain classes being held and when looking at my weekly timetable the periods that there is classes -- i don't have.
so I'm just thinking of maybe start lesson planning for the new year.
anyone want to help and give suggestions? we can make up stuff together!

I have had nothing to do since February 1st. The first day was a welcome back day for the kids and by 10:30 they were home with me sitting there 'till 5pm. Was told to get ready for Friday and the week of the 5th - 9th, ok...no problem and when I show up Friday Feb. 2nd they say all classes have been cancelled. So, I did f$%k all and I am sitting here today just waiting for Wednesday to show up.

I can't prepare for anything because they told me we will be doing something different in March so I am bored out of my tree and just frustrated over the whole mess. What a complete waste.

Some KBS quiz show on Wednesday for my HS-30 minute programme but it'll take all day to do

We started last Wednesday. Except Wednesday there were no classes, just some kind of opening ceremony and then the kids went home before lunch
Thursday I taught some class, but nothing after lunch
Friday, regular schedule.
This week, we are supposed to have regular classes.
On Tuesday, graduation practice (no class for 5 and 6 grade)
Wednesday, graduation. No classes at all.
Then its Spring break for a week.
March 2 the new academic year starts.

This whole time between winter break and spring break is completly ridiculous. I really don;t understand why they bother at all. I heard in Seoul (whre my Kteacher said its more "progressive"), some districts have a shorter summer break and then a longer winter break and just don't come back until March. None of this "Let's pretend to have class and that anyone cares about learning for a week" stuff.

I just decided to ask if I'd be teaching the same students after spring break, and the answer I got was that "it is still up in the air". I find it amazing how little anyone seems to know about what will be happening.

For the first time ever my school is being rational about the whole thing. There are classes from 9-1 and then the kids and the foreign teacher can go!

Mind you my contract is up next week..... maybe if they had shown this kind of sensibilities previously.....
