I got this class, one 12 year old boy, one 12 year old girl. They're both very smart kids. The boy is quite a bit better at English. He's a really nice kid. A bit high strung. He laughs at my jokes. So I like him.

Anyway, the boy almost always wears sweatpants to class and his hand is frequently down his pants. He appears to like feeling his ummm sack and then smelling his hand.

It grosses me out, no doubt, but this of course hasn't escaped the attention of the 12 year old girl. She's just just off her rocker. Clearly she can't tell anyone she notices his pocket pool... so she just has to issue some nebulous complaints about him. I fully appreciate her position.

Now, I know I should take the boy aside and in a fatherly/big brother like way explain to him that it's okay to do that if you're in private. Exploring your body is not wrong. Etc. But crap I'm Canadian and I really don't wanna.

Hold on....
Tell him it's okay to do it...IN HIS BEDROOM or BY HIMSELF he should never do it in the classroom.

or you could ask him if he wants to be a "Buh-buh-Ri man" when he grows up.

수업시간에는 바지에 손 넣지마 if you're feeling nice

or

수업시간이니까 딸딸이 그만둬 if you're not

But try to handle it privately, there's no need to traumatize the poor lad. Perhaps he's so captivated by that twelve year old lass he just can't contain himself any longer. Laughing Maybe there's a Korean teacher whose aid you can enlist.

I think every time I caught him with his hand down his pants, I would tell him to go wash his hands. Two or three trips to the bathroom in one class period ought to do it....

I've had a few similar cases. In one case, I just called out 'Stop touching your sausage!' and the whole class laughed so much that the boy was too embarrassed to do it again. Try that.

Your username is oddly appropriate.

Man, they don't pay me enough to deal with that. Put a divider up between the kid and the rest of the class and be done with it.

수업시간에는 바지에 손 넣지마

This means something like... don't put your hands in your pants during class.

수업시간이니까 딸딸이 그만둬

This is like... cuz it's class time, stop beating off.

So I guess his request still remains unfulfilled.

I was under the impression that this sort of activity was a Canadian past-time... Very Happy

One of my kids had eczema all over his body, but where is the eczema in the direst need of scratching? His crotch. I just tell him "su-heop shigan imnida...go-chu man-deegee-ma!" I try not to talk about it too often, because it's a medical condition and I just don't want to be that involved in my student's corporeal issues.

In cases of genuine masturbation or (shudder) touching...I just tell them it's time to study and that they should kindly keep their hands on the table when they're not using them for classwork. Seems to work. It is important not to totally mess up the psyches of the kids.

Good advice...they can always go off and have a wank after class.
