In your opinion, what is the best restaurant in Hongdae, and why? Cool lounges and bars may count as well.
I really liked BrixX... good atmosphere, smoking hookahs, middle eastern food, chic music, nice staff. Forgot I was even in Korea...
So, I'm also looking to eat Indian food there or another foreign cuisine. Any recommendations? |

Don't go to Margaritas! The quality of the food there has dropped drastically. The last time I went there I didn't even finish my burrito. But Khao San is good if you want some Thai (Koreanized) food. |

There's a new Nepalese food restaurant opened up in Hongdae.
The decor is nice and the staff very friendly. The food is cooked fresh (no Itaewon stlye, fat soaked, salt caked, deep fried crustiness) by Nepalese chefs and is delicious to say the least. I wont wax on about it as I'd be here all afternoon and it's lunch time now... Can't tell you how to get there though but it's called 'Nepali' and is about a 5 min walk from hongik Uni... |

Is that the Mexican place near the little park? If so, I'd also say don't go. My gf and I went one Saturday afternoon. The place was dead. We were the only customers in the place. We both ordered a burrito. Given how dead the place was we decided to be nice and pump up the bill a bit. So we ordered an appetizer. They refused to serve us an appetizer unless we ordered one of the $12-$14 entrees... vs the $7 burritos. Ummmm. We canceled our order and walked out of the place. A restaurant that doesn't want your extra money doesn't deserve a penny of it. |

The place right by the park is Casa Maya. It's crap in my opinion.
Margarita's is closer to the Hongik subway station and they have two now. One's by the NY Fries craphole and the other's by Shooters.
I guess my favs are a toss-up between Sogno and the two Jenny's. |

Who refused to serve appetizers? Was it a young employee or was it the owner? What was their response when you cancelled and walked out?
I can't imagine an owner with an empty restaurant saying "no" to business. |

mindmetoo, I think you might be talking about Casa Maya. Was it on the second floor? Margaritas is on the other side around the corner from Starbucks. I ate at Casa Maya in Apgujeong and was appalled. The burritos were tiny and they used pork and beans style beans, mozarella cheese and gochujang in it. I think the best Mexican food is Choi's Tacos in Sinchon. |

Right, yes. It was Casa Maya. The waitress had the odious duty of informing us the chef would not make an appetizer unless we ordered more expensive entrees, not the burrito entree. Entirely insane. We just canceled our order with the waitress, she obsequiously apologized and we walked out. |

ahhh i ate at casa maya once and won't ever go back. We even had a good recommendation from friends that said their fajitas were good. Well, we ordered burritos and they were ham and a ton of onions, and something else. It was WEIRD. Definitely really bad. I mean, I'm desperate for some Mexican food, but not that desperate. |

I would have said Ribs Ribs next to Subway last year before they went out of business. My brother and I loved that place. The ribs were cooked wonderfully, meat just fell right off the bone, great sauces, all you can eat garlic bread, great prices. Really, wish it was still there. Anyone know if there are any more Ribs Ribs restaurants around in Seoul or was that the only one? |

Ribs Ribs is a chain, but I don't know where any others are or if they're still open. I also don't know why they closed down when they seemed to get decent lunch business. Definitely was a good feed, though. |

There's a new Indian restaurant in Hongdae right by Seogyo Elemantary School (the side towards Sinchon). It's called Shanti, it's up on the second floor. The owner is a really nice guy and the food is more than decent. They even some good wine. Check it out. |

Nice! I love threads like this. As much as I love Korean food, it gets old and you need to shock your mouth with different tastes. Anyone know if Greek Joy is still in action? The last time I went was a couple of years ago and they didn't have half the things on the menu available. |
