Laptop's been actin' up lately. J/w if anyone knows a website where I can do a virus scan on my pc. Any takers?

And, if memory serves me correctly, it isn't possible to restore your OS w/ someone else's Startup discs, etc., is it?

Thanks in advance!

This probably should go in the tech forum--lots of people there can give you a heads up on where to look. Personally, I like cnet (download.com) because it reviews all kinds of programs that you can download, many for free, and gives users a chance to review them too.

I have been using Avast (full version available as a free download) for over a year, and it is a lot better than what I was throwing my money away on before.

And yes, you can use someone else's startup discs on your computer, as long as you have the product key/registration code/whatever, and it's the same OS.

Although many laptops, and some proprietary desktops, have mainboard bios that will not allow another OS (other than that company) to be loaded onto the computer.

Mainly, this is done so that you have to live with their add-on vendor programs and bloatware, and I feel it should be made illegal.

I think you can get a free trial version of something. Go to download.com and look for anti-virus software.

My dad, an IT director at a college, says AVAST. They install it on all Freshman computers.

Jaz, what's supposed to happen after the scan? I ran a complete scan on my laptop and after doing so, the window closed automatically.

Is that supposed to happen? Are the results supposed to be layed out?

Help! Shocked

http://www.avast.com/

Fully functional virus checking software with free updates and all the goodness of a paid package. Enjoy.
