				| How common are 6 month contracts? I assume you don't receive the same benefits as you do with a year contract. |

I had a 6-month contract at my last uni, but I had 2 of them back-to-back, so I fulfilled my full year and got my full benefits. My co-workers had a 4-month and an 8-month.

If you want "severance", make sure you put it in the contract. (2 weeks pay)

If you want vacation, make sure you put it in the contract. (5 paid days) |

I also wonder about this--as I want to adjust my hiring dates to coincide with the school year (& uni hiring season)

 Anyone at a Public School that's managed a 6 or 8 month contract? |

No. It's all dependent on the school. My previous uni used 6-month visas because the gov't paid for "temporary" teachers. As long as the uni didn't give us year-long contracts, we fell under that rule, and they didn't have to pay a dime for us. The gov't picked up the tab.

The good unis will take nothing less than an MA. The second tier will take you if you have extensive experience. Third tier unis will take any warm body that will put up with their crap wages. |

Do you need an M.A specifically in TESOL or English or Linguistics? |

				| I was wondering about six month contracts as well. I'm working at a hagwon now and my contract is up in a few months. My director is a decent guy one the whole, but I've heard that he has been prone not to pay the year-end bonus. I actually wouldn't mind staying on for another six months, but not a year. You guys think it's possible to negotiate some kind of deal where I get my bonus money included in a six month salary (say a 400,000 won monthly increase or something), or am I pretty much going to be forced to stick around for the entire year if I want to stay? |
