[right, so i probably should have been suspicious about how my 'minder/liason' had become noticably nicer to me.]

anyhow, today my boyfriend was told that the two of us will have our schedules changed next semester (starting March 2nd). so instead of teaching at a public high school, we will additionally be required to teach at middle schools and elementary schools for a few days a week. WTF?!

i'm so angry i can't see straight. can it be called a 'bait and switch' if things don't change until the second semester we work here?

WHAT THE HELL DO WE DO? we dislike teaching young children with a passion. we took these jobs because they're countryside high school jobs. we started 1st july. now all of a sudden it's changed: today, February 8th.

advice and encouragement will be appreciated.

they are breaking the contract if the additional schools are not on ur visa paperwork/ARC. If u teach at other schools u can and will be deported if caught and the director wont give a damn

get a tape recorder and record everything they say. If you don't want to, tell them you will not do it unless they fill out the required immigration documents that will enable you to have a different address(es) placed on you ARC.

As far as I know or understand your situation, unless they do that you will be working illegally.

Tell them you do not want to work illegally!

Go back to your contract and see if it specifically lists what school you will be working for. If it does, hold them to that. If it doesn't, demand that they add the extra schools to your ARC, ask for new contracts with all new details.....in general just make it as difficult and annoying as legally possible. I know my advice isn't that great, but i'm on vacation, and my brain is on 'power save'. Anyone else have ideas?

Yes, without additional visa paperwork it would be illegal.

Based on everything you've described about your school I would dig my heels in and say no, and if they don't like it they can try to fire you and you'll go to the labour board.

That sucks.

You could just flat out refuse, and start looking for a new gig. It is hiring season.

If you do refuse, you'll probably tee everyone off, and your nest semester will be rough anyway.

Right below where it lists your country they should be either the name of a school or a letter and number. If it's the name of your school you have a strong case (e.g. ____고등학교).

Check your contract.

In mine it says something like l may be asked to worked at other locations.
BUT, even so they still need permission from immigration for you to work at these other locations.

OR

As it is hiring season you could quit and probably find another gig quite easily.

I guess it depends how much you like your school and how much you really can't stand teaching kiddies Smile

yeah, our contracts basically say "bend over". in 30 days, that would be mid-march (i thought most positions were for 1 march starts). AND there's the chance they won't give us LORs.

Additional schools should be written on the back of your ARC. I think it costs each school about 60,000 won and a trip to the immigration office. Mine was actually handwritten with a Sharpie and then stamped.

Oh - I guess the fact that I live on campus would explain why my school's name is there then.

I am sure you would be able to find a position after March first. I started at my public school about halfway through the autumn/winter semester. I can see your problem with them not being willing to give you a LOR even if you give them the proper amount of notice.

What did they say when you voiced your concerns about being pimped out?
