Is this recruiter on the up-and-up? Ever heard of POSCO--an educational foundation running schools for steel worker families in Korea?
Any info most helpful! |

Canadian Connection is just another recruiter. They get paid by companies to introduce warm bodies to companies. At home you would call them a head hunter or employment agency.
POSCO is a huge steel making company.

| but in the realm of "recruiters" they are pretty good, so if you are going down that route then I'd recommend them..... |

I'm also with 'canadian connection'
sure it's okay for most and you get a 10 day orientation for which you get paid....
but if yuou are having trouble with things like I have/am like with your apartment or school they are of no help.
so sure they get you over here... but aft4r that.... you're kind of on your own and they don't give a lot of support...
but otherwise ok |

I would totally agree, Shane and CC, one in the same are very useful. They do seem to go through the grilling process, and those from hagwons, that I have talked to, who have joined ask why they didn't go with someone like him earlier.
Nonetheless, if you want someone to hold your hand all your life, then I guess you would still complain. Communication is key to aid in issues when you are on your own. I would recommend to continue to step up to the plate, never give up.

Yes, I used to work in Pohang where POSCO is based.
My friend worked at their high school. But they also have an elementary and middle schol I think.
From what I can gather it wasn't a bad gig. She had a nice apt right near the school.

CCs are good from what I've heard. I've met lots of their teachers and they've mostly been pretty happy.
The jobs with the POSCO schools are good jobs. Good luck getting one of them. |

Yeah, I've just used their services for landing my first contract, and they got me a public school job, which is a blessing.
Shane is a really nice guy, and over their interview, he's very straight-forward dude, at the same time, he's got a laid back voice so you can feel relaxed with him.
I'm heading over to Korea next week, and I'm ready to go. When the deadlines come around, he'll get you going where you need, and he's there to help you with your questions, even though the only drawback it takes more time than usual to get a response, but he'll get it done.
I recommend them. |

Actually, Posco's main head office and a large steel works is now based in Gwanyoung (I think that's how it's spelt). They still do have a factory in Pohang though. My wife's father was one of the big bosses for Posco. |

Paid orientation , eh? Well, in the contract I just signed with Shane at
Canadian Connection it clearly states in --
Article 20(Condition of Employment)
' Employee shall complete an assigned period of orientation ... before the
commencement of the Term of Employment.
' The orientation period shall not be included in the Term of Employment
'Thus, Employee WILL NOT be entitled to any compensation'
My public school contract starts March 3rd. I will be arriving in Incheon on
March 2nd. It appears from the contract I signed that the orientation will be included in the Term of Employment.
Upon arrival in Incheon , can school officials now change the dates of the term of employment on the contract I have already signed? To answer my own question, I think they can because there is NO signature in the Employer box next to where I signed my name and there is NO date on the contract. This makes the current contract I have VOID.
I still have time.. |

Yup, alphalpha is right. I am also with CC, and in my contract it says that I do not get paid any compensation for the ten-day orientation.
Oh well, life goes on. |
