So my school is changing the wallpaper in my current place. They will let me choose the colors. If I chose the cheaper "paper" kind, then they pay all. If I want something a little nicer (silk) I have to pay more.

Fair enough.

I went to the shop, and knew exactly what I wanted. The lady knew I would pay a little extra for better paper, because we told her that when she came here and sized up the place. After she quoted me an extra 250,000 won for silk over paper wallpaper, I changed my mind, and decided that I wanted the school to foot the bill for everything (cheaper paper only).

The total cost of doing this place with cheap paper is about 405,000 won. She wanted another 250,000 won for the silk.

Now, after I just want the lower-priced paper, the paper prices have suddenly changed.

So I said, "Show me only the low-cost papers that are the same as the white they were going to put in anyway."

Ok. No problem. She assures me the books in front of me are all the same lower price as the cheap paper.

What do you know? I search through three books and choose one color for each room, and .. oh... those are more expensive!

Despite telling the lady at least 3 times that I didn't even want to see paper that was a higher price, every frickin' paper I chose except one was going to cost more money.

She has a set price in her head for what SHE hopes to get out of this deal (she wants to make the over-and-above amount that I was going to pay if I got better paper).

So now, just about anything I choose is going to cost more money.

I had to excuse myself, because another minute in there, and I'd be in jail for beating the old fart to death with a roll of cheap wallpaper.

Maybe you can get the more expensive wallpaper if you tell them you don't need the ceiling wallpapered, just the walls.

Surely you can give the wallpaper lady a dirty look as you go next door and give a different wallpaper lady some business. Twisted Evil

Rolling Eyes I absolutely HATE HATE HATE how pretty much nothing in all of Korea has a set price that you can count on as being the ONE and ONLY price of whatever you're trying to purchase. Even some of the "nicer" department stores don't have prices on anything.

They wallpaper the ceiling?

That's weird. I'd rather just paint the place and not tell anyone.

I wanted to paint my apartment and um....they looked like I had suggested we sacrifice small children and use their blood. I have no idea why they never don't paint any ideas out there.

dunno, well actually we had to use the schools store but apparently if you paint, like fan death you will die.

Painting has not caught on. Home improvements and hobbies like that are not popular. Understandable no garages. My dad used to build furniture as a hobby and house was always in a state of remodel god love him. But it was fun sometimes and I learned how to use tools, drills, and I can handle sheetrock. Put in a plug and pretty much fix stuff. Change tires and change oil.

Here it is just throw it away and get a new one or cover it with wall paper.

Seems to be the way du jour.

Why do you care?
Just tell them to do it and let them choose. You may be there only until the end of this contract. Why give yourself stress over the paper? If they want to paper it then let them choose the paper.
