CTV in the early '70s improbably tried to create a sci fi series that kind of blended some concepts from Lost In Space and Silent Running. They remarkably managed to hire Harlan Ellison to develop the concept and write some scripts. Ellison's work wasn't hippy enough so they sort of Sgt Pepper-fied the whole thing with an Amish back beat. Ellison wasn't pleased and forced the producers to take his name off and use his pen name Cordwainer Bird which he used for works he thought were total crap. Ben Bova was another big name they lured to be the science advisor but after they kept ignoring all his science advise he quit.
Basically it was about a bunch of Amish space hippies with thick mustaches running around a massive domed multigenerational space ship trying to set it back on its proper course. |
