nope, even if every bank in Korea were closed this weekend, you still have convenience stores that have ATM cash machines in them.
no need to get you panties in a not over nothing.. |

I say yes.
Even if the ATMs are chock full of cash, your account may not be accessable if your bank has shut down.
Happened to me over Chuseok with Shinhan bank. |

That was a totally different situation. The bank was undergoing some major computer changes and closed accounts for the holiday period. They sent out notices to everyone (we got ours in English!!!) about how accounts would be affected. You should be fine with you bank card, although a few machines in popular areas may run out of cash. |

| I bet at least your gas burners in your apartment work. I have two choices until Tuesday. Spend my money to eat out or starve, since I can't cook without WORKING gas burners. And I have to run water through a coffee pot for three days to have hot water for my tea. Cheers!!! |

My gas range hasn't worked since December. I told my school about it and they sent people to fix it. Except that they didn't actually do anything as far as I can tell. I mention it to my school again and they claim that my gasrange works now because they sent someone. We have this conversation every week.
One of the teachers took pity on me and gave me a portable one but it looks like it might explode if I try it. |

Hello Hamburglar. I am sorry to hear that. I would say, in your case, you should start giving your school all of your food receipts and start KINDLY suggesting that they reimburse you. A gas range that hasn't worked since December??? Totally unacceptable IMHO, and your school sounds like it's being ran by insensitive jerks. I can almost guarantee you their gas range works fine as can be.  |

Hm, that's good to know, Ajuma. I never received any notice, nor did the five of my friends I was vacationing with who also use Shinhan bank, but I'm glad to hear it wasn't just a random occurrance. |

I remember that. I ran out of money. I was staying at a hotel in Seoul. Had to get my boss to transfer money to the hotel owner's account.
I'm only staying around my small town for the holiday. Have 330,000 Won on me (I think). There's a Shinhan bank, and a couple of other bank machines. Also a Family Mart one. Thing is, if the bank's machines close down, I might be in trouble if I need money because I recently changed my card from CHB to Shinhan and tried using it at a convenience store in a nearby city last week. Didn't work. Maybe because I hadn't used it yet.
Anyway, 300,000 should be enough. |
