lately i have been biking for 2 or more hours a day (4-8 hours a day on weekends) and have also doing some swimming. i want to get back into lifting weights to work on my upper body strength. what's the cheapest gym i could go to to lift weights? i live in shinchon, but any relatively near place will do. i.e. jongno, hongdae, etc. i need a cheap place! nothing like california wow, of course. i'm not worried about cleanliness or anything - if i were, i wouldn't be in korea.

I've seen one cheap gym in my area, but I'm out in Incheon. That one was 25,000 won a month. The gym I goto costs about 45,000 (I pay three months ahead though). I'm not sure about those areas, but I would think you'd have to go looking in the seedy parts to find them.

There are two inexpensive gyms within a block of each other on the street opposite Artreon. For weights, I would recommend the one that also offers spinning, just because it has more equipment. I can't remember the price exactly but I think I paid around 240,000. That includes 10,000 extra per month so I could take the classes. I could be totally off but either way I remember it not being that expensive. Anyways, you should check them both out since they're right next to each other. They're opposite the whole starbucks/caribou coffee/outback complex heading away from sinchon and towards edae on the main road, and if you're looking for them you'll see the signs. They're both in the basement.
