I am wondering whether to bring my portable radio. Are the frequencies for AM and FM radio stations the same as for the US?

How about shortwave? Does anyone actually use it anymore, say, to pick up English language broadcasts?

Get Grunding Yacht Boy 80. You will be all-set regarding listening to anything. And shortwave works fine still.

What sort of stuff do you pick up with your radio?

I already have a Radio Shack DX-392 (Sangean) that I like - it has a cassette recorder that can be set up to record on a timer and digital tuning. Still not sure - are the local AM and FM bands compatible?

They are compatible. You can see specs of your radio here:

http://support.radioshack.com/support_electronics/doc8/8178.htm

Main page:

To see what you can pick up:

http://www.primetimeshortwave.com/time.txt

Other websites:

http://www.earthsignals.com/swfreqs.html
http://www.dxzone.com/catalog/Shortwave_Radio/Schedules/

So just bring it I guess. I didn't find one for sale in Korea - but I did not look very carefully to find the right shop specializing in this type of electronics.
