I hate Northwest so much. They used to be my favorite airline, too. I have 100,000 miles, and I can't book a flight home using my miles. I checked for the summer -- nothing available. I checked for winter 2008 -- nothing available during my 2 months of vacation.

They let you book up to 352 days in advance.

Of course, I can use my miles to "upgrade" myself to business class on ONE leg of the flights (here to Japan) but that costs me between 20,000 and 60,000 miles, AND the price of the base fair jumps up another $500 to $1,000.

Worthless.

should of seen the hassles I just got trying to use my United miles to Bangkok on Thai. Used to be able to get the 10AM nonstop down there and the 10:30AM one-stop coming back. this time got stuck on a 5:30P one stop going down got in at 11:30P and coming back got stuck on a 2AM flight

What was worse they screwed up my cc info for paying the tax on the flights and had a hell of time checking in because United has outsourced their reservations to the Phillippines and their Enlglish stunk.

man are the airlines getting greedy

I just looked for a flight to Chicago on United in the summer and found numerous options. They've really made the search much more user friendly. I went to Argentina on miles in 2005 and had to spend some time searching for available flights.

that's strange ... i know they have a lot of black-out dates on the standard tickets but you would think they would have a few options available over the summer or winter. maybe cough up a few miles and get a seat or wait a few weeks and check again. i used 60,000 miles with northwest for a free ticket to costa rica and a domestic usa flight.

I find it tough to imagine which airlines the OP dislikes so much tthat NorthWest rises to the top as his favourite.

Edit: BTW, you can use NW miles to US on Delta/Continental and KAL.

Yeah, NWA is pretty awful for using their miles, BUT!!! the best thing is that it's fairly easy to get a "Silver" card, which entitles you to use the business line when checking in!!
