I am trying to get a cell phone, there is a posting in the buy and sell forum with one for sale.
So I contacted the guy and it turns out to be a business, anyway! They guy said I need to send him a photo copy of my ARC card with a money transfer for the phone, shipping, charger, and some minutes. Which sounds like a pretty smokin deal....
But I'm wondering if I send him my ARC card what can be taken from it? |

as anyone who has ever tried to use an alien registration number to buy anything online or even register for membership of a website will tell you, the ARC number is useful for less than bugger all... |

I have just bought a phone with this guy... same deal.
He needs the ARC card to register the phone in your name... Very helpful I think... It's a hassle taken care of..
The deal is good, but Darkness you did notice that there's also a monthly fee of 4950won, right? |

With pay as you go phones arent there usually a W4500/monthly fee anyway?
Is the phone nice? Any complaints?
I appreciate the response, was wondering if it was legit or not. |

I'm really not sure, but I don't think this is the case.
I haven't received my phone yet.. I should've got it today, but wasn't home at the right time (my fault)
Darkness, if you wait till tomorrow night, I'll give you the full low down when I've tried it out! |

I got my phone today from wineeconsulting.....
So, for 30,000won one can't complain, I don't think!
And it's what you'd expect of a used, 3yr-old model...
The case is pretty scruffy... but it seems to work perfectly....
camera is pretty good...
Next to the latest models it looks ..old!! But it's still pleasantly light and compact.
one thing to bear in mind is that to benefit from reduced rates you have to dial an access code.... (much like using a phonecard)... But that's not really a problem, you can save your numbers with the code added at the beginning, it just takes a few seconds extra to connect...
This is a pre-pay phone with a monthly fee... No contract..
Anyone want to ask me more questions... PM me... Or just ask Ryan Lee, he's very helpful! |

Yes, it's cheaper... If you dial the access code.
And yes there's a 4,950w monthly fee...
In theory it works out much cheaper if you talk a fair bit.
The main reason I chose to take this deal was because I was sick of trying to deal with people in phone shops... I've been trying to get a phone for months now!!
If you live in Seoul, or you have a Korean friend who can help you, then it's worth going and investigating at some other places.
Anyway, wineeconsulting is legit. |

not COMPLETELY true. I'm a member of hanmail.net (and hence also Daum). All I needed was my ARC and a working korean cell at hand during the reg process. I'm an E-2 man.
Oh but I'm restricted to a nine character password - let the haxing commence!!
Actually, I prob shouldn't broadcast that - I'll never tell you guys my user name!
BUT, I can't seem to join naver, yahoo korea mail, or nate. I can't use the melon player (so no mp3's on the cell..), or install sk teletech modem drivers for my cell cause of "foreigner" restrictions - that word actually pops up on the web form! ...
Any help/pointers with any of these matters would be appreciated |

There was a scam last summer where phone shops were using foreigner IDs to obtain phones/accounts for Koreans who had credit trouble and couldn't get a phone.
Wish I knew the details. I just overheard it in a conversation quite some time ago. |
