anybody know if there's a way of getting around the duty tax/customs issues, when ordering something in the 8-1000 dollar range? The item is used, and I've ordered many other things and have had no problems with them getting here in a timely manner, free of any taxes... but they weren't anywhere near this price range. not worried about the tax, so much as I am just the general hold up.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had a friend order something in $300 range and he was charged about 90,000 won but got it reduced down to about 60,000. The problem in this case was documentation. Customs did not see any time of invoice or price and was not sure what it was. He is a ham radio operator and it was something for that. It wasnt delayed, however and it came COD. I dont know if that helps much.

There are really only two things you can do

1) convince the seller to declare a *very* low value (and don't insure it).
-this might not work, if customs thinks it's valuable.

2) once you get called to the post office to pay the duty, bring a Korean friend and try to get your duty decreased. This has worked for me every time I've tried it, usually about 50% or so. I've never tried it on anything more than $2000US.

Remember that the duty is also applied to the shipping fee, so even if everything else works out like magic you'll still be paying some import tax, unless this expensive item is small and light.

Egad, billyg. Does the kid in your avatar need glasses, or what?
Sorry to intrude. Just has me mesmerized a bit.
