You missed Exciting Korean Listening.

I've also been told by my sogang teacher that the level 5 books should be available later this year.

Hope you don't mind but I've transferred everything to this )new) page:

Making it a sticky here would be good too but just in case it'll always be there too now.

Thanks - much appreciated.

Starting the beginners night class April 5th and a little worried because I can barely read Hangul and I know about 40 expressions, but nothing to write home about. I hope I can make it through the class, it cost me 755,000 won.

SuperHero: I'm sure there are a lot of textbooks that I have missed. I don't pretend that this list is exhaustive. I did add the book you mentioned to the original post.

SuperFly: What do you mean by "Yonsei beginners class text?" Is the level 1 book listed under Yonsei not it, then?

mith: That's fine. I was actually going to do it later today but you beat me to it. Smile I did go to your site and improved the formatting a bit.

EDIT: Ginormousaurus beat me to it. Embarassed

Am I right in assuming that that is the Sogang evening class? (I know it starts on the 5th) I'm sure a lot of people will be interested in hearing how it goes.

Don't worry about not knowing much Korean yet. You'll learn. Fast. Wink

Ooh, it looks like BBCode allows nested lists. I edited my original post again to include them -- it makes the list easier to read, but I just wish there wasn't so much blank space between the entries.

Looking further, I found the reading texts for levels 4 and 5, but not for level 6. Is there one for level 6? Looking at the course descriptions page on Yonsei's site, it sounds like there is ("Reading Korean for Experts") -- maybe it hasn't been published yet.

Here are a few I didn't see mentioned:

Modern Korean: An Intermediate Reader (not my favorite book, but one of relatively few intermediate textbooks out there)
by Nam-Kil Kim
ISBN 0-8248-2222-6

Korean Grammar for International Learners (very useful grammar reference)
by Ihm Ho Bin, Hong Kyung Pyo, and Chang Suk In
published by Yonsei University Press
ISBN 89-7141-554-1

Handbook of Korean Vocabulary: a Resource for Recognition and Comprehension (AKA "the blue and red book", a helpful vocabulary building supplement, helps teach hanja and native Korean roots for thousands of words, worth its wight in gold)
by Miho Choo and William O'Grady
ISBN 89-7735-930-9

The following are hanja textbooks:

A Guide to Korean Characters: Reading and Writing Hangul and Hanja
by Bruce K. Grant
ISBN 0-930878-13-2

Korean Reader for Chinese Characters
by Choon-Hak Cho, Yeon-ja Sohn, and Heisoon Yang
ISBN 0-8248-2499-7

Pictorial Sino-Korean Characters
by Rev. Jacob Chang-ui Kim
Hardcover ISBN 0-930878-58-2
Paperback ISBN 1-56591-005-2

Learn Hanja the Fun Way: Chinese Characters for Foreign Learners
by Lee Young Hee
ISBN 89-5726-232-6

I don't want anyone to get the mistaken impression that I actually know a lot of hanja based on the fact that I own these books. They're a better indication of how many times I've started and given up learning hanja. Embarassed

Thanks, that looks even better. I think I'll go write a welcome template on your talk page. There, I just welcomed you.

If anybody has pictures of the textbooks we can put those up too so that people know what they look like.
