Yeah its tough, best idea get in a taxi at yangjae and say E-mart(euh) and the e-mart is next to the costco. Its a bit of a walk and like you said very confusing directions.

It's about a 1.5-2.0 mile walk. I believe you have to get out at exit 7. When you get out of the subway, there is an intersection to your left, so walk across that. It's one of those intersections where you need to cross a lane, go to an island, and cross another lane. Then walk straight for almost two miles. You will pass a Buddhist park on the way. You will go over a bridge. Pass the AT Center on your left , with a huge dino statue made out of legos (that's what the pieces look like). You will see a HUGE flower market on your left, and make a left at that intersection. You will see signs for E-Mart and Costco. As Oct. Hite said...just ask for "E-mart-euh" or "A-t-Centah" and they should point you in the right direction. My boyfriend and I walked for 45 min - hour, so make sure you go on a mild day. And bring whiskey.

Oh also....you can ONLY pay with a Samsung credit card or CASH. There are ATM machines on both floors.

Yangjae subway, exit 7. Walk about 30 meters to the 7-Eleven/Crown Bakery. Take green bus 08. Costco is the last stop on the bus route, across from the Emart and the very tall bluish-green Motorola building on the corner--across the street from Starbucks. Costco is in a big tannish-brown nondescript building, next to a BMW dealership. It looks a lot like all the other Costcos I've ever been to outside of Korea.

There are other busses that you can take from the Gangnam station area, green bus #20, 4424, and red bus 9503. For details, search this website for "Yangjae" and click on "Yangjae Costco": http://bus.congnamul.com/SeoulRouteWebApp/view_english/map.jsp

Personally, I would not recommend taking a taxi to Costco. Many taxi drivers don't know where it is. The traffic around Costco is absolutely ridiculous on Saturdays and Sundays--a taxi ride is going to be a good 5,000 won more than it should be because I guarantee you'll be waiting in traffic for at least 15 to 20 minutes. Weekdays are much better.

When you leave Costco, there are usually taxis waiting across the street at the Emart. Sometimes they wait about 100 meters down the street from the Emart (in the direction heading away from Costco) in front of the pharmacy.

Costco is closed during Seonal, and I believe on Cheosuk, possibly on Christmas day, can't remember for certain. Pretty much every other day it is open from 10 am until 10 pm.

Definitely bring plenty of cash, like MollyBloom said. The ATMs there charge the highest fees I've seen in Korea.

I know the 3030 bus goes there. That's how I get there. It's a red express bus, very fast and efficient.

Hey Brento,

I rode the 9503 to Sinsa Station yesterday, and it seems that the 3030 and the 9503 both go right past the Costco. However, there didn't appear to be any bus stops in the neighborhood immediately around Costco itself (in the direction I was travelling - Gunpo to Gangnam). Where do you get off? (Haha...Where do YOU get off Brento?!?) Is there a stop across from Costco, or should I ding the bell before/after?

Thanks.

Whenever I got on the bus, I just told the bus driver "costco!" and "ok?" he nodded and grunted, and I grunted back in approval. Whenever the bus reached the area, he yelled out "costco!" and it was all good!

Laughing

I've tried that before on buses and found it to be a very ineffective way of reaching my destination. In the past I've always tried to do my best to explain in passable Korea that I needed help - then I said where I was going, asked where to get off, and crossed my fingers. However, when I received the grunt from the driver I did not grunt back (in approval). Perhaps there is something in the back-and-forth grunting that seals the deal...? Almost four years here, and I still have a lot to learn. Sigh...

Some bus drivers can be hell. Others will go out of their way to ask you where you are going, and watch out for you when the stop comes up.
