I was thinking of doing this over the summer, the 3-week program.
I'm wondering how the people are, if it's fun, and if you really do learn anything. |

I'm (not Korean) taking the beginners class (night class for businesspeople etc) which starts April 5th. Beginners don't have to take the placement test, so I'm assuming that they'll start with the alphabet.
I've been studying the alphabet and I can barely read the road and shop/store signs...although with some difficulty. I've been married to a Korean for 8 years, but I never thought I'd end up back in Korea again so I never bothered to learn it back home. The first time I was here I was working at a company, not a hagwon/hakwon - so I was busy most of the time and didn't really have the time or the energy to learn. Any free time I had was split between co-workers wanting to hang out and speak English and my then girlfriend-now wife who spoke really good English - so I just never did it then...even if I had learned some Korean, I doubt I would have remembered much because I wouldn't have used it back home.
If I wasn't currently taking an online class through my uni and working, I'd study more right now. |

i did a summer program there during college. (about 7 years ago!) it was mainly kyopos and some russian students. because it was summer vacation, there was a kind of party atmosphere and it was a lot of fun.
whether you learn anything is up to what you put in. it sounds like you are serious about studying, so it could potentially be rewarding. what level are you? because while the beginning classes are really good and helpful at yonsei, i don't think the program is great as a whole. (as someone who went through it all.)
good luck! |
