Yonngsan is always hit or miss, Technomart is always a miss, the dpeartment stores are always carrying expensive Samsungs that cost a month's salary.

Anyway, given my recent PC problems, and that I'll be travelling soon, I was thinking that I need a laptop. Something with a good heap of RAM since I'm always working on large image files in Photoshop.

Anyone have any good experiences buying, or have any good leads on where to buy, decent laptops near the one million won mark? or do you know anyone who can customize one?

Browse online with a Korean friend. You can easily find offers on new laptops for under a million. I just got a Sony Vaio for 890,000. With an Epson printer/scanner thrown in. It's a bit underpowered though. But it has 1GB RAM.

The newer avartec's are around that price range, and look nice.

You might also try www.dell.co.kr and check out the Inspiron
640m line. Keep ram to the base offered, and buy it elsewhere after the sale. Maybe upgrade the hard drive, though.

15''!! It's the VGN-N15L.........It's going for around 850,000 at Yongsan. I wouldn't recommend it though. The 1.7 celeron processor just doesn't cut it. It's mostly for my wife's use. Plus, Sony have loaded it with huge amounts of bloatware which results in 57 processes showing on taskmanager on start up. The thing can't handle it. It needs some serious software trimming.

I think there are many good laptops for around a million but can you live with Korean windows? Me? I would be looking for English XP or Vista as an essential aspect of buying a laptop. Furthermore, I would then reformat whatever laptop I bought to get rid of all the Korean windows and bloatware. Then do a very simple install of Eng Windows with only the essential software of my choosing. Cheaper laptops need all the help they can get to run fast.

Well, I got my Eng XP disc from the guy with the smoke and a cellphone in the tunnel at Yongsan!! I'm sure it's all legit!! Laughing

But, if you want to buy a laptop pre-installed with English then I've no idea. I've always just bought parts for desktops, put them together and installed Windows myself.

Heh, I got a stack of his "back ups" sitting on my shelf.

I'm a little leery of getting a bootlegged XP now that Microsoft is asking you to stick your disk in to the machine with every update now. I guess it's time to go legit. Or go linux...
