Yikes,

Today, more than ever before, I had to hold myself back from jumping out of my crammed seat on the subway and scream, "Get me out of here!!!"
I couldn't handle being sitting in the subway for 16 stops ... Well actually I could handle it, but I really wanted to get out of there.
And this feeling has happened to me recently at work, too.

Sometimes my office gets so noisey with Korean chit-chatting and even screaming as they're discussing stuff or laughing so loud I have to put my head phones on and try to quickly load some music.
My korean is not that good that I can understand every thing they say, not perhaps would I want to.

Its just I find the noise and the language barrier really annoying lately. I have lived here for a while and it has never bugged the you-know-what out of me as it does now !!!!
I have just come back from a wonderful holiday so I should be relaxed.
What's the deal ???

Has anyone ever felt like the song, "I wanna break free ???" here is Korea ???

You either need to get laid or get back on your prescribed medication. Just relax.

Quinella,

Thanks ...you know you might be right !!!

Its funny but perhaps on holiday in an English speaking country you forget for a while what it is like here.

Thanks again

I hate the subway in Korea from autumn to spring because they crank up the heating to unbearable levels.

Gwangjuboy,

Yep, that was definetely part of the problem today ...

I was roasting AND trying to sit between 2 people without any part of my body actually touching them while being stared at by everyone.

That reminds me to ALWAYS bring something to read with me ...

where do you live/work? i bike everywhere, mostly along the han river. from there i can get from shinchon to yongsan to oksu to apgujeong to jamsil to shincheon, etc. plus, there are a lot of wide sidewalks in seoul, and i've even been biking on the roads lately. if you're extra-careful, it's not so bad. i think that biking on roads here isn't as dangerous as people say. i think the biggest problem is dumb cyclers...

To the OP,

Are you sure you weren't experiencing a mild panic attack? It happens to me occasionally in hot and crowded places. It's not as uncommon as you might think.

No it wasn't a panic attack ... (Thank god)

I had the odd one in my time ....

It was more like a feeling of not wanting to be in a subway in S. Korea - a very strong feeling ...

Perhaps its a good thing because I recognize that this country is not where I want to live for the rest of my life Razz
