Not a rumor. George W. Bush has just issued a statement thanking the Brits for their support and calls it a step in the transition of control to the Iraqi police.

spun to the right: "It's a move along in the transfer of responsibility to Iraqis."

spun to the left: "Britain is abandoning the lost cause in response to the will of the British people."

CNN has been flip-flopping between the two all morning.

I'm not surprised.

spun from the political analyst: "It's a pre-emptive move by Blair before he leaves office to diffuse the campaign issue, as whomever is his successor will pull troops out for sure."

I wonder why Blair said today that Iraq is the "coc-pit" on the war on terror and that he supports Bush's plan to increase troop deployment. It's kind of odd that he pulls his troops out because their mission has been successful but is not willing to help out the Americans when the need is very real. Anyway, Demark, Poland, Austraia and a few other countries were really only their for token support in the first place, and most of the fighting (or having troops in harms way) have been the Americans.

Their mission has been a success according to Bush, but this is the same guy that said 'mission accomplished" 3 years ago. It's funny how so many people bought into that brand of misinformation.
