I have two job possibilities located in Gyounggi do. One at a public middle school and the other at a university
The public middle school is in Cheolsan, which borders Seoul. It is through GEPIK and offers 22 classes a week. The bad part is it does not start until April 1st, which means 2 months until my first pay check. I asked if the school would allow me to start March 2nd, but was told nothing was guaranteed and my request would not be considered until after I have signed the contract and submitted the documents. Sounds kind of hokey if you ask me. There is a potential position at a university in Bucheon. I submitted my resume they agreed to have an interview with me. However, I only have a B.A. and ones years teaching experience at a private elementary school, so I dont know if I am a serious candidate for the position, as most universities require a M.A or several years teaching experience with a B.A. Then again, the school needs 5 teachers the semester starts March 5th so maybe because its crunch time they will make an exception. But, I dont know how many people they plan on interviewing.
I am not sure what to do. Should I take the public job and cancel the interview with the university, or wait until after the interview and hope the public job is still available? To make matters worse, my visa expires March 2nd, so I will need to leave Seoul soon. |

I've said it before and I'll say it again:
You don't need an MA or a ton of experience -- it helps, but for a lot of universities if you pull of a good interview and a good demo (if they have a demo lesson) you'll be good to go.
The real question is which job would you like better? |

Thanks for your advice.
I would prefer the university job. But if I am not hired by the university i fear i will be looking for hogwon work.
Also, I wasn't told anything about a demo. |

For lots of unis it is last chance hiring season. Lots of people with just a BA have a good chance now. Most better qualified people have sorted out somewhere to work months ago. With a year under your belt, and *5* people needed you have a real good chance unless you suck in the interview.
Unis are not as difficult to get into as most people think. |
