Sorry, I'm not very hi-tech! I had an mp3 player and I just got an IPOD. I don't want to pay for music how and where can I download music for my IPOD?
Can I save my mp3 player songs straight to my IPOD?
What about movies?
I got a 30Gigger! |

You can download stuff, I would do a wikipedia search on bittorrent, that should get you going.
You need a free program from Apple called iTunes to put the music on your iPod.

You gotta open iTunes, and then go to Add Folder to Library under File options. Then, just find the folder where your mp3s are stored. After that, they will be in the iTunes library, and you can drag them to the iPod.
To be honest, I'm not sure about movies. I think you have to convert them to .mp4 format. |

Yea, that is correct. You can do this using several different programs, but this one works like a charm for me:

You can't just plug in your ipod and then drag and drop onto a folder via vanilla windows explorer? |

Nope. The iPod accesses music from a database created by iTunes when it imports music. When it imports music it changes the filenames of each track to sdjkfhsldki.mp3 of some such thing, and puts them in folders called F001 etc. It then hides the folder.
This is to prevent piracy.
But it isnt hard to work your way around it. There are programs that will copy all or some of the songs off your iPod, rename them based on the song title in the ID tags, and then create a directory structure of your choice, based on the artist and album title tags.
Or you can install alternate firmware like Rockbox, free, opensource, from rockbox.org, that will allow you to drag and drop music on and off in Windows.

Clearly his Reality Distortion Field has grown in size. People put up with this crap system because....? If you don't have an iPod no one will lay you? |

After owning a couple of other mp3 players, and my last ones battery died, after 20 months of very hard work, I bought a 60Gb iPod. There was nothing else out there with the same capacity for the size, and with Rockbox I dont need to use iTunes.
For me a Rockbox'd iPod is the perfect choice.

Yeah got a 5th generation Ipod for valentines day 30G....she got it from CostCo for 250 000. Is that any good? |

I dont know about the price, but I think the 5G iPods are very good, if you change the software.
If you never want to get your music off, and dont mind having to install in all on your own computer then it is find without Rockbox.

I settled on the same 30 gig ipod for 275,000. It's a bit more expensive than ordering online, but not by much.
I'm happy with it, but I do agree that itunes blows. |

Same. I've consolidated all my mp3 libraries into itunes and it didn't rename any of them. Just drag and drop into the iPod once they're in the itunes library. Don't know what all the fuss is about.
