My school is retarded, like full on retarded, but I'm curious as to how many other public school teachers are being forced to come to work today when there are no classes and literally no work to do.
Anyone fitting this bill who are also sitting in unheated classrooms please raise their hands... |

| In my school, if I don't have classes on a particular day - and this week I've only had one class - then I come in as usual in the morning but then leave at lunchtime. No-one ever complains or mentions about it. I think sometimes it's better just to go, assuming you've not been specifically told to stay all day. |

Oh, I was told to stay all day...
I fought them on it. I have to fight them on a lot of things. And I've grown extremely tired of hearing 'because' and 'that's just the way we do it' as answers.
I'm leaving at 12:40 which is our normal lunch time today, even though I've been told I have to stay until 1 pm--- and this is the best I can do after having a pretty big fight with them.
I have to come in on the 21st and the 28th, why, 'because'. Ostensibly one of those days is to get my schedule, but they said they may not have that ready for me until March 1st. If the heats not on for those days I'll ask them to turn it on. If they don't (and there are days they don't) I'm going home whether they like it or not. |

I am told I have to be here all day. But, nobody checks. I am so tempted to go home.

| Yeah, sitting, planning, cogitating until Mar 5. But no heat? Our staff room has a portable kero heater going full time. No heat is pretty flaccid. |

Who cares if they have stay a few hours more or less. I kind of like being at school anyways. It's one of those small things I'll go along with, saving my breath for bigger problems. |

One of my coteacher told me that we were not supposed to come in today and almost all of next week.
A few minutes later he comes back to inform us that we HAVE to come in today and every single day next week, even mentioning that we'll be deducted pay if we dont show up.
What a bummer, had nothing to do for the past 2 weeks already.
Today i noticed that NOONE ELSE is in School but me and 2 or 3 other teachers.

Yeah, I guess how big of a problem it is depends on who you are and what you like to do. My girlfriend (Korean) is doing nothing at home these days so I usually meet her and cook lunch if I don't feel like eating the food at school. Also, my computer at school is extremely basic, so I can't play any of the games I enjoy at home. So, a few hours in the morning of school/lesson-related browsing is enough for me. When I save enough money to buy a decent laptop, I'll be much more happy to stay all day "doing nothing"! |

My school gave me the 16 - 2 off. Now instead of doing internet all day at work, I do it at home.... |

I actually don't know if or when I'm allowed to leave, to be honest. Some teachers and students are running around doing all sorts of admin. stuff; others loitering around me. I'll leave when the parking lot starts to empty out and head off to the gym. All but two of the English teachers know nothing of my trip to Hong Kong next week and if they want me next week for anythign at the last minute I guess I'll just 'be away'. It's all a matter of not being a squeaky wheel, the way I see it. |
