I just started this series and I'm excited about 'em. They look great because they emphasis spoken communication, presenting information intuitively and in manageable portions. Other books I've looked at seem to dump one catagory (Introductions, Professions, Numbers and Dates, etc.) on you, chapter by chapter.

I was wondering:

How many books are there?

How is the student ranked, level by level? (example: after finishing 3B a student is high intermediate, etc.)

What could you do after finishing each level?

I'd love to hear about your experience.

there are books currently available to 4B but level 5 books are slated to be out sometime this year according to my teacher.

I just finished level three at Sogang and we used books 3A & 3B. The thing is finishing the level means different things to different people. Looking at the ACTFL proficiecy scale, I would say that level 3 brings you to high beginner/low intermediate.

On the report card I recieved the levels are broken down to
  • Novice
    1. Level 1
    2. Level 2
    3. Level 3
  • Intermediate
    1. Level 4
    2. Level 5
    3. Level 6
  • Advanced
    1. Level 7
    2. Level 8

As far as I know they don't offer level eight but it's on the report card. Each level is further broken down into three checkboxes to indicate your ability within the level.

Okay, I'm a little confused. Does it break down as such:

    Novice
    Level 1 = 1A & 1B
    Level 2 = 2A & 2B
    Level 3 = 3A & 3B

    Intermediate
    Level 4 = 4A & 4B
    Level 5 = 5 (coming soon)
    Level 6 = N/A

    Advanced
    Level 1 (level 1?) = N/A
    Level 7 = N/A
    Level 8 = N/A

yes except for the advanced part - it's level 7 & 8. I edited my post to fix that mistake.

I have heard it said that realistically one can expect to be at a high intermediate level or possibly low advanced level when finishing level 6. I just finished level 4 and I'd say that I'm probably low intermediate. (note: I'm a bit lower than many others in my class, but I'm the only person with a job)

were you working during the semester? that's pretty impressive. I found it difficult to put in the extra practice necessary due to having two kids and a couple of personal projects on the go.

Unfortunately, i have to teach from next week so I won't be able to take level four until next winter (going to canada in the summer).
